World Championship Pinewood Derby

Dear Fellow Scouters

On behalf of our volunteer committee, I am excited to invite you to participate in the Sixth Annual Cub Scout World Championship Pinewood Derby in Times Square.

The first five years were great successes and we fully expect the event to continue to grow. In 2019:

  • 357 Cub Scouts Champions raced (up nearly 300% from first year)
  • 60 different Councils from over 20 different states across the country were represented
  • Over 2,150 parents, leaders and family spectators watched the action live in Times Square.

The World Championship Pinewood Derby will be held on Saturday, June 27th, 2020 in the Marriott Marquis in the heart of Times Square.

Cub Scout racers that finished either 1st, 2nd or 3rd place for their age group in the District or Council races are invited to compete for the World Championship. Exhibition racing is open to all scouts and their siblings.

Our volunteers will work with our out-of-town guests to help with discounted overnight accommodations at local hotels, can supply information regarding discounted tickets at popular tourist attractions and help with other travel questions or concerns. We also will offer free or discounted accommodations at nearby Alpine Scout Camp.

Please feel free, as always, to direct your program leadership to our site for an overview of the event: Take a look at media and video coverage over the last couple of years to get an idea of how participation can help grow visibility of Scouting in your home Council. We are also glad to assist your public relations committee with media support.

Our Committee sincerely thanks the nearly 100 Councils from across the country that have promoted the World Championship Pinewood Derby over the last two years. Questions are warmly welcomed to Jeffrey Tejada, District Director at

We are excited for this opportunity to work together raising Scouting visibility and further building our brand while providing a program for our Cub Scout Pinewood enthusiasts.
