PASSING OF JERRY ZUCKER

It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of a great Scouter, Jerry Zucker, at the age of 58. Mr. Z, as he was known to friends, was Coastal Carolina Council’s immediate past president, having just completed his two year term in February. He has provided tremendous vision and leadership to our Council for many years. Jerry is an Eagle Scout who exemplified the principles found in the Scout Oath and Law in his daily life.
As president he gave direct leadership to the 65 member board of directors. Coastal Carolina Council severs youth in nine counties and has over 11,000 local members.
Mr. Z was instrumental in:
•The development of a long range strategic plan to help guide the council over the next five years.
•Council being recognized at the end of 2007 as a National Quality Council - an honor few councils were given for their outstanding work in delivering the Scouting program to the youth of our community.
•Balancing the $1.4 million budget each year.
One of his biggest accomplishments in life was earning his Eagle Scout rank as a youth in Jacksonville, FL. He knew how having achieved that goal changed his life and worked to make sure that all youth, no matter their economical or social background, could have that same opportunity. He was a strong supporter of our inner-city outreach programs.
It was no accident that when Mr. Z was our president we had two record years of boys earning the rank of Eagle (averaged 100 a year just in our council). I know of all the things he accomplished during his tenure, that (record number of Eagles) was the one he loved the most.
The family has requested that memorials be made in his honor to the Coastal Carolina Council Boy Scouts of America, 1025 Sam Rittenberg Blvd., Charleston, SC 29407.
I know you will all join me in prayers for Jerry, Anita and their family.
